Bits and Pieces of This and That

Siegfried Sassoon

skaglads:

i knew a simple soldier boy who grinned at life in empty joy, slept soundly through the lonesome dark and whistled early with the lark. in winter trenches, cowed and glum with crumps and lice and lack of rum he put a bullet through his brain and no one spoke of him again. you smug-faced crowds with kindling eye who cheer when soldier lads march by. sneak home and pray you’ll never know the hell where youth and laughter go.

I feel like if the GOP took one look at a Jewish-born Middle Eastern candidate with a burgeoning religious following of his own, who espoused free health care, feeding the poor, and loving thy neighbor, they’d run screaming back to Newt Gingrich faster than you could say Holy Ghost.

Plus, ya know, all that walking on water stuff. Who does that? Terrorists, that’s who. Can’t trust an olive-skinned guy with a long beard.
